War & Piste is a ‘wickedly funny diary of a ski season’ written in a fictional account of one person’s ski vacation, journeying in the Austrian Alps. The author of the book, Alex Thomas, went through six winters of adventurous skiing to eventually bring out her story of the interesting and funny world of ski-life.
When it came to promoting the book in December 2011, Alex and the Traudl Publishing promo team (Polly and Blue) went to the Alps in order to build the hype of the novel. They carried with them lots of books, skis and War & Piste t shirts. Courtesy of Icon Printing, the t shirts for Alex and her team were produced by screen printing black prints onto coloured tees and white onto black t shirts which gave them extra impact due to the contrast in colour. Bold text was used in the same font as on the front cover of the book and also a website link was displayed clearly on the back to attract more publicity.

New British label, Casson, created by the London born fashion designer Hannah Casson, has recently teamed up with Icon Printing in the launch of her sleek new brand. The easy to wear clothing offers high quality with style and comfort.
Hannah Casson pays tribute to her home town by naming the clothes after London’s favourite pubs and also her local favourites too. I want Casson to emulate that.” These names can be seen in the ‘Black’ and ‘Classic’ collections.
Carrying on from the blog post recently covering Fashion’s Night Out, we want to fill you in on how we involved!
Net-A-Porter, online luxury retail company, took part within the many fashion retailers and designers in Fashion’s Night Out. They had a ‘window shop’ especially created for the event where visitors could actually shop online using their iPads or iPhones whilst also having a chance to win prizes! One very lucky winner managed to bag a pair of glittered Miu Miu shoes.
A recent and exciting job over the summer for Icon Printing has been to print t shirts for Helen Christensen’s campaign to find one guy and one girl who will star in Swarovski CRYSTALLIZED Spring/Summer 2012 Campaign.
With our custom t shirt printing skills we printed onto black vests and tees for the Unsigned Model Search. T shirt screen printing was used for the tops which is one of the most popular methods of printing as it produces high quality and long lasting prints. It is more suited to medium to large quantities (usually 25 items or more). Swarovski crystals were then manually applied afterwards. The design for the Unsigned Model Search print is simple yet effective with white writing contrasting against the black tees.
Keep your schedule free tonight as the annual Fashion’s Night Out event will be taking over in many capitals across the world where retailers will be open for the world wide fashion party.
Check out this striking sculptural design by American conceptual artist, John Baldessari. He is known for combining both text and photography and what Baldessari likes to do is explore the ideas of communication.
John Baldessari’s sculpture, Beethoven’s Trumpet (With Ear) Opus # 133 (2007), was featured in Saatchi Gallery’s exhibition ‘The Shape of Things to Come: New Sculpture.’ The artist said “I was asked to do a retrospective show in 2007 in Bonn with all the works I’d done about music. Bonn is the birthplace of Beethoven”. Baldessari even went into the home of Beethoven where the cabinet full of ear trumpets inspired him for his sculptural piece. Read the rest of this entry »
