how to convert text to outlines
This is a quick guide on how to convert your text to outlines for vector based artwork (.eps, .ai and Illustrator made .pdfs).
If we don’t have your chosen font on our system, the type in your design will automatically change to a default font. In order to prevent that happening we advise creating all fonts to outlines.
STEP ONE
Firstly, always try to remember to make a copy of your design to convert, don’t alter the original – that way you always have something to edit, should you wish.
STEP TWO
Once you have your artwork ready to go, select the text. At this moment in time your text is still editable and a box will appear around it – as shown here.
STEP THREE
Your text is now ready to convert.
Using the top menu bar, go to: TYPE > CREATE OUTLINES
Your selection will now look like this…
You’ll notice each letter is individually outlined. Each letter is now its own graphic/vector.
You can move them, alter their size, shape and colour – but you can no longer type into this selection or change the letters or wording.
STEP FOUR
Finally, if you have any paths of strokes (lines) you should outline these as well.
Simply select the line or path and go to OBJECT > PATH > OUTLINE STROKE
You’re done! This is now ready to send through to us. Don’t forget to to this to every item of type, and you should have no problems.
