DIRECT TO GARMENT PRINTING
Direct To Garment Printing or DTG Printing as it is known for short, is a fairly new technology that is very useful for small to medium quantities, as you don’t have to pay for set-up costs and it has the added benefit of being able to produce fantastically vibrant full colour designs or photos quickly with impressive results.
For instance, if you have a small to medium quantity (1-100 items) order and want a mulit-coloured photograph or image printed on your garment, then we’d recommend using Direct to Garment Printing.

Direct to Garment Printing Process
For direct to garment printing, we use large commercial printers which produces excellent results onto both white and coloured garments - imagine a much bigger version of your desktop inkjet printer. Instead of printing onto paper they print onto your t-shirt or garment. The printed design is then heat pressed onto the garment so the ink permanently adheres to the fibres which makes it durable and washable.
The quality of the finished result is largely dependent on the quality of the original image supplied which is why we recommend you always supply us with either print ready vector artwork (EPS / Ai) or high resolution JPEG files at least 300dpi and 100% of intended print size.
The main difference between DTG and screen printing is that you can blend colours, imagine a rainbow where the colours flow from one into another, this would be difficult to reproduce with screen printing because of the method of separating the colours, however with direct to garment printing we can do this perfectly because it is simply printing whatever artwork you send us.
There are no set up costs involved in direct to garment printing meaning it’s a cheaper alternative than screen
printing on short runs, there’s no minimum order and it produces better results than transfer printing.
When digitally printing onto coloured garments it's necessary for the printer to lay down a white base layer to ensure the print is bright and vibrant. This means the print may feel slightly 'thicker' on coloured garments compared to printing onto white items. Also, DTG printing can appear slightly more 'faded' than other printing methods because the print is acutally absorbed by the fabric.
Please note: With DTG printing, it's not possible to match colours in your artwork exactly (like your desktop printer), therefore we can't guarantee an exact match and are unable to offer a refund if the printed garment colours don't match the artwork.

Printing Pro's & Con's
The table below quickly highlights the pro’s and con’s of each printing technique we offer. We favour screen printing for large print runs as it produces the best quality results but direct to garment printing is great for vibrant full colour prints & transfer printing for low quantity orders, where budget is important.
